Onekama 2012 - Part 3: Sans Sand

Family portrait on top of the Dunes (Sage with Jen, Brian with Lucy)
Coming into vacation this summer we were a little concerned. The girls, particularly Lucy, had declared that she DID NOT like the beach...and had loudly expressed this disdain when we took her to beaches on Lake Huron and the Atlantic Ocean earlier in the summer (blog entries forthcoming). Essentially, she didn't like getting dirty and there was nothing more uncomfortably dirty than sand sticking to her skin. Still too young for sailing, movies in town, putt-putt or biking, time in Onekama is all about hanging out on the beach. Besides, isn't sand+water supposed to = preschooler delight?

So Brian and I, in our infinite parental wisdom, decided to head north to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Seashore. If your daughter doesn't like sand, why not take her to an oversized dune comprised entirely of sand? To her credit, I don't think Lucy touched sand while we there. Tenacious girl.
Some girls learn to dance by standing on their dad's feet...Lucy uses the technique to avoid the sand.
Not afraid to climb and explore...as long as she's safely above the sand.
Sage wasn't afraid to collect sand for our friend Sera's 4th grade class.
No one's afraid of milk pods...or pink monster hair.
Tuckered out, our pink monster heads back to the cottage.
