Today is Lucy Day - the anniversary of her arrival home. Lucy Day is the day the Phelleher Phour got on with the business of being a family without the safety net of nurses 24 hours a day. Lucy Day is going to be a pretty low key affair in which we'll enjoy some favorite Lucy foods like pizza, hummus surprise, homemade banana ice cream. We'll also sing the "It's Lucy-Lou Day" song which is curiously not ever quite the same with each singing.
On Lucy Day, I take a moment to think about what makes our Lovely Lucy-Lu so special. Lucy, I love the resilience and toughness packaged into such a tiny little body. I love your wry little smile that starts in the corners of your lips and spreads to your eyes. I love that you managed to keep smiling all winter when you endured ear infection after ear infection after bronchiolitis. I love how you crawled a full five weeks before your bigger, heartier sister...and started doing so during those months you felt yucky. I love that you don't complain about wearing your sister's hand-me-downs. I love the way you engage us in games of peek-a-boo by putting your hands on top of your head and grinning mischievously when we can't find you anywhere. I love how tight you hold on to us and the way you crawl into our laps. I love the softness of your voice and earnestness with which you share with us about your world. Happy Lucy Day, Lucy Goosey Puddin' Pop.

Here's to Lucy on HerDay! What a neat idea...one that celebrates each girl's uniqueness and her right to have a special day of her own. You are quite a mom! Enjoy!
