Today is the first anniversary of bringing Sage home from the hospital. And to honor this special occasion, we've deemed it "Sage Day." We envision that in the years to come, Sage Day will be a special day in which we celebrate Sage...her favorite foods, her favorite activities, her little quirks that make her our Silly Sage. It will be the day when she will get to ride shotgun all day long (assuming state law will ever permit her to ride shotgun before her 21st birthday) and not only get to cut the cake, but decide which piece she wants first. It will be Sage Day each May 20th.
So on this first Sage Day, I take a moment to think about all those things that make Sage special. Sage, I love your fiesty independence coupled with your tight, sweet hugs in which you throw your arms around me and hold on tight. I adore the sound of your chitter chatter and howls of laughter erupting from the nursery. I love that while you can play quietly for a while, we can count on you to let us know when you and Lucy are awake and that it's time to get up already. I love your grin that encompasses your entire face...stretching from ear to ear and from forehead to chin. I love the enthusiasm with which you eat and your openness to trying anything. I love that you will go find Alana when she's sitting alone and pass a toy back and forth with her. I love your curiosity as you bravely check out new situations...from crawling across the grass, to jumping into the big girl tub, to flirting with the pew behind us at church, the world is yours to explore. Happy Sage Day, my silly, sweet Sage.
