On April 5th, the girls had their first year well visit. Here are the stats:
Sage:
Height: 27.5 inches (6 percentile on the big girl growth chart)
Weight: 18 pounds, 2 ounces (6 percentile on the big girl growth chart)
Head circumference: 18 inches (65 percentile on the big girl growth chart)
Lucy:
Height: 24.5 inches (0 percentile on the preemie growth chart)
Weight: 13 pounds, 12 ounces (0 percentile on the preemie growth chart)
Head circumference: 17.75 inches (46 percentile on the preemie chart)
Lucy's percentile doesn't concern our pediatrician as much as the fact that she fell off her own growth curve just a bit since her 9 month well visit. Given her three months of serial ear infections, case of bronchiolitis and bout of a stomach bug during those three months, a dip in growth is probably to be expected.
Our pediatrician's recommendation was for me to keep nursing and for us to fortify Lucy's food with heavy cream, butter or olive oil at every opportunity. Lucy has no idea how good life is at this moment. Sage, sadly, does not get to share in this diet. But she does get to start drinking cow's milk. Mooo.
In related news, the ban on my eating dairy (it was giving the girls gas while I was nursing...bad, bad painful gas when they were little) was lifted. Ice cream, pizza and cheese, lovely cheese...Mama's back!
Developmentally, the girls are doing splendid. Both are crawling (Lucy 5 weeks before Sage). Both babble (although they're a little shy when others are around). Lucy pulls up. Sage blows kisses. They are smiling, giggling bundles of joy.
Ready for new beginnings - an update after 5 years!
