Birthday Buddies!

Two weeks after I learned I was pregnant, back when I still naively thought there was only one in there, my college friend Chuck emailed our mutual friend Dave and me announcing that we should "Look for a wrinkled picture in early April."  It was still too early to tell the guys to look for another wrinkled picture in early June, so I waited another month of two to share the news (which had become double news by then).

Chuck's wife, Shelagh, became my pregnancy buddy. Given this was her third pregnancy, she was this calm voice of reason (this calm voice of reason became all the more life saving when the kids actually came - Shelagh gets full credit for the girls being the magnificent sleepers that they are).

But through the entire pregnancy, I always thought of her pregnancy far, far ahead of mine.  Which is why it always strikes me as strange that my girls are two weeks older than Henry.  Well...two weeks actual age older than Henry.  Henry has a good 8 pounds on Sage and was smoking Lucy across the floor in crawling contests when the Moul Five came to visit.  Henry is now my yardstick by which I measure how far behind my preemie twin girls are to a full term boy.  Gross motor skills - Henry has them beat by a mile.  Eating skills - Sage and Lucy are holding their own.  Language - nobody is doing much of anything yet.  We're all pretty sure that by the time our birthday buddies are off to kindergarten, it won't matter at all.
